The parliamentary group of "Vazrazhdane" has proposed the introduction of a funding system based on mandatory school districting for all students up to the seventh grade. In the National Assembly, MP Angel Yanchev stated that this model, which functioned in Bulgaria during the 70s, 80s, and until the end of the 90s, was replaced by delegated budgets, which the party described as harmful.
Yanchev pointed out that the government's management program devotes 21 pages to education, yet lacks reforms for the secondary level, as well as plans for a single textbook for homeland studies and other academic subjects. According to him, 65% of the government's commitments in the education and science sector have a deadline of January 2030. "It is clear that the government has no money for schools or for updating teachers' salaries, and this is the reason why they are using accusations about what has or has not happened in education to sweep this issue under the rug," the MP added.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Radev commented that investment in education is the most important factor for the country's future.
