Scientists from Burgas's Prof. Dr. Assen Zlatarov University presented two research posters at the ZoologyCon 2026 international zoology congress in Bucharest, the university said. The event ran from 4 to 6 November.

The authors are lecturers and doctoral students from the Faculty of Natural Sciences. The first poster looks at the yellow-legged gull, which nests on the ground in towns along Bulgaria's Black Sea coast. The authors say this behaviour is unusual. It was written by doctoral student Desislava Geneva and Assoc. Prof. Dr Svetla Dalakchieva and Assoc. Prof. Dr Nikola Todorov.

The second poster studies how short changes in air and water temperature affect the growth of mosquito larvae as the climate changes. Its authors are doctoral students Nikolay Dimitrov and Denitsa Petrova, together with Assoc. Prof. Dr Nikola Todorov, who worked on both studies.

The university says the topics deal with current environmental problems. It says the congress lets scientists share experience, make professional contacts and work with colleagues from other countries in future.

More than 150 researchers from 9 countries who study and protect wildlife attended. The programme covered biodiversity, behaviour and protection of animal species, as well as DNA barcoding, molecular analysis and digitisation of biological collections.

The hosts were the Grigore Antipa National Museum of Natural History, the Romanian Academy and the University of Bucharest.
