IT, medicine, transport and construction dominate among the most popular professions in Bulgaria. Average salaries range from BGN 1,800 to BGN 13,000, and the demand for qualified personnel is growing.

In 2025, the most sought-after professions in Bulgaria reflect the accelerated digitalization and the need for qualified specialists in leading economic sectors. Data from the Employment Agency, Forbes Bulgaria and national HR companies show that IT specialists, medical staff, engineers, heavy goods vehicle drivers, teachers and construction workers have the highest share of vacancies.

The IT sector is a leader – programmers, software engineers, cyber security specialists and cloud solutions specialists receive monthly salaries between BGN 3,500 and BGN 13,000. The greatest demand is for developers with knowledge of Python, Java and JavaScript, as well as experts in AI and big data.

In healthcare, there is traditionally a shortage of doctors (especially specialists), nurses and orderlies. Salaries range from BGN 1,800 (orderly) to BGN 7,500 (specialist doctor in a private clinic). The aging population and the increased need for health services are cited as the reason.

Heavy goods vehicle drivers (international transport) receive BGN 2,300–5,500 and are particularly in demand in logistics. Construction workers and engineers in construction have incomes from BGN 2,000 to BGN 6,500, with a structural shortage of staff here — over 30% of companies have vacancies. Teachers remain a stable profession with salaries between BGN 1,800 and BGN 3,500, depending on experience and the size of the settlement.

Welders, machine operators, technicians and chefs, as well as sales specialists, traders, accountants and financiers are also in high demand. Naturally, interest in professions related to green energy, climate innovations and digital marketing is also growing.

Trends for 2026: High demand for staff with digital languages, high market mobility and sustainable interest in professions with stable employment. Among the requirements are good digital skills, proficiency in English, adaptability and teamwork.
