Rumen Radev on the Role of Local Authorities and Trust, greetings on the occasion of the Bulgarian Municipality Day

Directly elected by the citizens, local authorities are called upon to be at the forefront of solving the problems of the population, working daily for their well-being. In the conditions of changing political trends, they often appear as the face of statehood, and this further burdens their representatives. Therefore, the trust gained with integrity and fulfilled promises becomes the most valuable capital of local authorities.

On the occasion of the Day of the Bulgarian Municipality and Local Self-Government, President Rumen Radev published a position on the social network Facebook, in which he emphasizes this key role of local authorities. "The biggest capital of any authority is the trust that is earned and preserved with integrity, responsiveness, and fulfilled promises," the head of state writes.

The President congratulates all mayors, mayoral representatives, municipal councilors, and employees in municipal administrations who are making efforts to improve the lives of their fellow citizens. "I congratulate all mayors, mayoral representatives, municipal councilors, and employees in municipal administrations who work honestly for the well-being of their fellow citizens and for whom the development and prosperity of Bulgarian cities and settlements is a cause," he notes.

In today's days of frequent political changes, local government often becomes the embodiment of statehood. This imposes increased expectations from citizens, who seek in it a guarantor of the protection of the public interest, regardless of political influences. Radev also emphasizes the need for institutional and public support, as well as legal changes to guarantee the effectiveness and financial independence of local authorities.

In the Albena resort complex today, an annual meeting of local authorities is held, organized by the National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria (NAMRB). The atmosphere is lively, filled with anticipation for fruitful discussions. This year's edition of the large-scale event brings together nearly 700 representatives of local authorities, central government, business, the academic community, partner organizations, and foreign guests. These participants have an important role in improving governance, transformation, and the development of municipalities.
