During his traditional meeting with the principals of schools in the capital, held on the eve of the new school year, the Minister of Education and Science, Prof. Georgi Valchev, called for a closer partnership between schools and families. He emphasized that educators must take the initiative, reach out first, and not give up in the face of difficulties, as success for children is only possible through unified efforts. Information about the meeting was officially published by the Ministry of Education and Science (MES).

According to Prof. Valchev, one of the leading goals is to restore the connection between parents and the school. He described education as an extremely sensitive area that touches every family and called for the active building of cohesive school communities. The Minister highlighted the need for calm, predictability, and dialogue, assuring principals that any future changes would be discussed with them, the teachers, and social partners before final decisions are made.

The Minister was definitive: "We cannot move forward if the system is anxious." He promised support from the Ministry and sent a message to the principals to maintain confidence and calm, continuing to put maximum effort into the development of students and teachers. Among his priorities is the introduction of a package of measures to improve discipline, with the goal of creating an environment where teachers can fulfill their professional duties without interference, following clear and established rules.

The topic of discipline was also addressed by Prof. Valchev during his responses before the Parliamentary Committee on Education and Science on September 2. He then explained that the problem is serious, as nearly 50 percent of students feel affected by the actions of classmates who disrupt order in the classrooms. The meeting with the principals was also attended by the chairman of the same parliamentary committee, Dimitar Zdravkov, who urged them to be active participants in the upcoming discussions, highlighting the importance of their practical experience.

The event, led by the head of the Regional Department of Education in Sofia-City, Dr. Eleonora Lilova, was attended by:

  • Dr. Tanya Pancheva, Deputy Minister of Education and Science;
  • Desislava Zhelyazkova, Deputy Mayor of Sofia Municipality for "Education, Sports and Youth Activities";
  • Chairpersons of trade unions and employer organizations in the field of education.
