The President of Iran called for an end to the war with the USA

The President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, made an official statement in which he emphasized that the current moment is the most appropriate for ending the war with the United States, as his country is in a strong position, reports Agence France-Presse.

During an address to medical workers, Pezeshkian stated that the Islamic Republic must end the conflict now, while "maintaining its dignity" and authority before the international community, which he believes already recognizes Iran's success.

The Iranian president added that the world community clearly sees how the "USA is attacking civilian targets," including hospitals, schools, and critical infrastructure, while ignoring all international norms.

Tension between the two countries escalated on February 28 following joint US-Israeli airstrikes on Iranian territory. In response, Tehran launched large-scale counterattacks against positions in Israel and US military bases in the Middle East.

On April 7, the parties reached an agreement for a temporary ceasefire, and in June, they signed a memorandum of understanding intended to help settle the conflict. However, the diplomatic agreement quickly collapsed, and on July 7, military actions were resumed.

At the moment, negotiations for a lasting peace agreement are at a complete standstill. The main obstacle remains control over the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

The Iranian authorities set as a final condition for peace the complete lifting of the American blockade and sanctions. The position of Washington, for its part, includes mandatory guarantees for "freedom of navigation" in the region.
