The Transfiguration of the Lord: The Mysterious Enlightenment of Christ on Mount Tabor

On the eve of the significant Christian holiday of Transfiguration of the Lord, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church "St. Ivan Rilski" in Vienna is preparing a solemn service, which will be held at 10:00 local time. The temple provides an opportunity for confession by prior telephone arrangement.

The historical event being celebrated occurred during the preaching activity of Jesus Christ in Galilee. According to the evangelical accounts, the Savior ascends Mount Tabor together with three of his closest disciples - Peter, James, and John, with the purpose of prayer and spiritual communion.

During the prayer, a supernatural transfiguration occurs - Christ literally shines with supernatural light. His face acquires a radiance similar to the sun, and his clothes become dazzlingly white. Simultaneously, two significant Old Testament prophets - Moses and Elijah - appear beside him and engage in conversation.

The divine revelation is so intense that the disciples are literally stunned. Peter, confused and amazed, suggests making three tabernacles in honor. In this sacred moment, a voice sounds from heaven: "This is My beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased; Listen to Him!"

The theological interpretation of this event is deeply symbolic. The Transfiguration aims to strengthen the apostles' faith and demonstrate the true nature of Christ before the upcoming suffering. Moses and Elijah testify to the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies.

Particularly significant is the theological aspect of the so-called "uncreated light" - a supernatural divine energy that is a fundamental element in the Hesychast spiritual tradition. This light symbolizes the immediate divine presence and transcendence.

Christ instructs the disciples to keep silent about what they have seen until the resurrection - the greater miracle that is to come. This moment is viewed as preparation and consolation for the upcoming trials.
