"For centuries, we have lived together; we have been together in times of celebration and in everyday life." With these words, Vice President Iliana Iotova highlighted to those gathered at the Central Sofia Synagogue the significance of the Bulgarian model of ethnic and religious tolerance. The occasion for the solemn event was the celebration of the year 5787 on the Jewish calendar – Rosh Hashanah. According to Iotova, the fact that Bulgaria manages to preserve this coexistence makes it a "bright example" that must be nurtured in future generations, exactly as history has bequeathed it to us.

Reflecting on the need for a decisive stand against the recurrence of hatred, the Vice President stated that the battle against the shadows of the past remains relevant. She expressed strong indignation at attempts to incite new ethnic divisions and at violence against members of the Jewish community, defining such manifestations as completely unacceptable. Iotova emphasized that the state will not allow for the return of sinister historical periods and will oppose any forces seeking to erase the understanding that has been achieved.

In the context of the coming New Year, the Vice President called for self-reflection and the seeking of forgiveness, which she described as a sign of true strength. In a world torn by conflict, she highlighted her choice to bet on hope in the face of children's suffering and mothers' tears. Her message was directed at the duty of contemporaries not to bequeath wars, but an environment where every young person can peacefully develop their talents and enjoy security.

"Our great responsibility is to restore peace and justice to this world," was the main emphasis of the Vice President's speech. In conclusion, Iotova quoted Jewish wisdom, calling on those present to seek good, because only good can beget more good. "I will quote a part of your book, which says that every person must write their name in the Book of Life. Tonight, my message to you is: let us write our names in this Book of Life with good deeds, because good is born only from good. Happy holiday!" she wished at the end of the official ceremony.
