In the latest edition of PISA 2025, 760,000 students from 91 countries were assessed. The international study, organized by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), tests how 15-year-olds apply their acquired skills in mathematics, reading, and science in real-world settings, with this cycle placing a primary focus on scientific literacy.

The results of the latest PISA study are catastrophic for Bulgaria. In response, Prime Minister Rumen Radev described our performance as "catastrophic" during today's cabinet meeting. The Prime Minister insisted that the Ministry of Education and Science take bolder and more decisive steps in implementing the planned reforms.

Data from the study shows worrying trends for our country, which the Minister of Education and Science, Prof. Georgi Valchev, described as unsatisfactory. He confirmed that Bulgaria is seeing a decline in reading and mathematics scores, which is a clear signal of structural deficits within the national educational model.

During the meeting, Radev also issued a specific call to Prof. Georgi Valchev, stating: "I personally, Professor Valchev, am calling for a larger share of secondary vocational-technical education and engineering majors in higher education institutions."
