Police to Intensify Security Measures During Easter: Checks in Churches and Recommendations to Citizens

During the Easter holidays, there will be increased police presence around temples, churches, and monasteries, where large gatherings of people are expected. This was announced by Commissioner Milorad Yordanov from the National Police at a briefing.

Over 1500 Orthodox churches and over 350 accommodation facilities have been inspected, and irregularities in fire safety have been found in some of them. Chief Inspector Yoto Vasilev from the "Fire Safety" department pointed out a lack of fire-fighting equipment, faulty lighting, and omissions in the organization.

133 written orders have been issued and 3 acts for violations have been drawn up. The inspections continue.

Recommendations to citizens:

• Do not carry bulky items.
• Keep your bags close to you.
• Do not carry large sums of money.

The police will assist citizens. Citizens are urged to pay attention to suspicious persons and vehicles.

Fire safety: Special attention has been paid to compliance with fire safety measures, including securing the places for lighting candles and ensuring safe evacuation.

76 officers and 37 fire trucks are on duty. Citizens are urged to be vigilant when lighting candles.

Meetings have been held with local authorities and security companies for joint measures. Measures for control in facilities that are guarded have been discussed.

Discussions have also been held with the heads of facilities storing funds and with managers of entertainment establishments. The emphasis is placed on their obligations regarding the safety of citizens.

Compliance with the Weapons Act will be monitored, reminding of the ban on the use of pyrotechnic products in the areas of temples.
