A group of Bulgarian Orthodox believers from Western Europe will undertake a traditional pilgrimage to one of Bulgaria's most significant spiritual centers. Between August 1 and 6, 2025, representatives of the Bulgarian Church Community "St. Patriarch Evtimiy Tarnovski" in Paris will travel the sacred route dedicated to the national patron.

The initiative receives official blessing from Metropolitan Antony of Western and Central Europe, who supports the spiritual unity of Bulgarians abroad. The walking journey will start from Sofia and end at the famous Rila Monastery, following the route along which the saint's relics have been carried for centuries.

"Participation in the pilgrimage is already an established tradition," the Church Board shares. The journey includes crossing the mountain slopes of Vitosha and Rila, stops at rural temples, and touching the sacred Rila lakes. The route is not just a physical challenge, but a spiritual experience that unites generations of Bulgarian believers.

The community's history dates back to 1981, when it was founded with the blessing of Metropolitan Simeon, who was the Glavnitsa Bishop and Patriarchal Vicar for Western Europe at the time. Since 2006, the community has had its own temple, which continues to be a spiritual center for Bulgarians in France.

The pilgrimage becomes a symbolic journey that connects Bulgarians from different parts of the world with their roots, faith, and national identity. Every step along the route is an expression of spiritual continuity and deep reverence for the patron saint.
