The two-month legal deadline within which the indictment for the fatal accident on the „Trakia“ motorway had to be filed has expired. For this reason, Encho Dinev, who was detained following the tragic incident on June 24, is now free under a „recognizance“ measure and a ban on leaving the country. Yambol District Prosecutor Doychin Doychev specified that the release is mandatory by law, as the penalty provided for the charge of causing death through negligence limits the period of detention to this timeframe.

The investigation is ongoing, with findings from the commissioned automotive and medical expert examinations still awaited. Doychev emphasized that it is up to the experts to confirm whether the driver's version—that a blown tire led to the loss of control and entry into oncoming traffic—is true. It is possible that the charge may be reclassified, but this depends entirely on the analysis of the experts, who determine both the severity of the act and the permissible period of arrest.

The severe accident occurred on June 24 around 13:00 at the 290th kilometer of the motorway, near the „Zimnitsa“ road junction. At that time, a heavy goods vehicle crossed the central guardrail and collided with a passenger car traveling toward Burgas. There were three fatalities at the scene of the collision:

  • The driver of the passenger car;
  • Two 9-year-old children from the FC „Slavia“ school.
Two other passengers—a 49-year-old woman and her husband, a 46-year-old coach at the same football club—were transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
