Medics and firefighters pulled a 42-year-old man from a ravine near the village of Yasna Polyana in the Strandzha mountains after he fell from an ATV. He has serious injuries, and a medical helicopter flew him to the University Hospital in Burgas. The incident was reported on Saturday, 24 October.
Early reports say he has a serious spinal injury.
The rescue was not easy. Yasna Polyana is in Primorsko municipality, where the terrain is rough. Crews had trouble reaching the man and carrying him out of the ravine.
Doctors put a breathing tube in the man at the scene, before the helicopter took off for Burgas. After the flight, he was admitted to the university hospital in the city.
It is not yet clear exactly how he fell from the ATV. There is also no up-to-date information on his condition since he was admitted. The circumstances of the incident are still being looked into.
This is the latest serious ATV accident in Burgas region this October. The victims in both cases are the same age, and both were flown to Burgas by helicopter.
On 6 October, a 42-year-old man from Nessebar was badly hurt after falling from an ATV near the village of Kosharitsa. He was also flown by medical helicopter and rushed to the shock room of the Burgas hospital.
