Spiritual Revival on St. Ivan Island

On the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, the island of St. Ivan near Sozopol became a center of Orthodox unity. For the second consecutive year, an episcopal Divine Liturgy was celebrated amidst the ruins of the medieval "St. John the Forerunner" monastery – an event that revives a centuries-old tradition.

"Today, the desert is often the human heart, devastated by disbelief and selfishness," noted Metropolitan Arseniy of Sliven in his inspiring address to the believers.

Establishing a New Pilgrimage Tradition

Metropolitan Nikolay of Plovdiv and Metropolitan Arseniy of Sliven emphasized that the gathering on the island is not merely a memory, but a living testament to God's providence. The bishops announced their intention for the site to become an annual pilgrimage center for the entire Christian world.

• Recognition: Slavka Bozukova was awarded the Order of "St. Dimitar of Sliven" for her contribution to the preservation of Bulgarian sacred sites.
• Historical Context: The event was also attended by Prof. Kazimir Popkonstantinov, who discovered the saint's relics on the same island.
• Scale: Dozens of laypeople reached the island thanks to the free transport provided by the Municipality of Sozopol.
