Students at Burgas Prof. Dr Asen Zlatarov University have a new place to relax in the inorganic building, donated by Philip Morris Bulgaria.
Rector Prof. Sotir Sotirov invited the company to create the space. Prof. Aleksandar Dimitrov, deputy rector for administration, business partnerships and student policies, and the Student Council helped. At the opening, the rector thanked the company for its help.
Besides giving students a place to spend free time, the space promotes the company's national campaign against cigarette butts thrown away in nature. The campaign slogan is "Change the Picture". It includes art installations, city exhibitions and volunteer drives, and posters with messages are up on 50 Bulgarian beaches.
Company representatives said students should not put up with litter of any kind polluting nature. They called on young people to promote proper collection and storage of household waste.
In October, six young people – four students and two pupils from the Trade High School – took over senior posts for a day at the university in the "Manager for a Day" initiative, organised with JA Bulgaria.
Other Bulgarian universities have similar spaces.
