A massive wave of discontent was triggered by the new draft law on religious organizations among evangelical communities in Bulgaria. On July 29, 2025, a group of about a hundred pastors publicly announced their collective position through an official declaration.

The main objection of the spiritual leaders is related to attempts to administratively limit religious freedom. The draft law introduces restrictive texts that require registered denominations to modify their founding documents, especially regarding the use of terms like "Orthodox".

The pastors categorically define such legislative initiatives as discriminatory and potentially threatening the religious autonomy of different faith communities. They emphasize that the proposed texts could create serious obstacles to the free practice of faith.

Experts from the evangelical community warn that such administrative pressures could have long-term negative consequences for religious pluralism in the country. They insist on reviewing the draft law and guaranteeing the constitutionally protected rights of denominations.

The declaration represents an unprecedented collective act of resistance, demonstrating the unity and determination of evangelical pastors to protect their religious freedoms. They are prepared to continue their public campaign against attempts to restrict religious activity.

At the moment, official institutions have not yet commented on the pastors' position, but tension around the draft law continues to grow.
