The video circulating on social media reveals how bears descend to the regional landfill near Smolyan and feed on the food discarded by people. Experts from the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Waters (RIEW) in Smolyan, together with representatives of WWF, take immediate action to protect the protected species and ensure the safety of people in the area.
The place where the bears were spotted is located 12 kilometers from the city, in a wooded area near the landfill. Cameras have been installed that confirm the presence of two bears of visible age around one and a half years old, who often descend to the road. Experts constantly monitor the area and take preventive measures, with signs along the road calling on people not to feed the animals.
According to specialists, when we give or leave food for the bears, they lose their fear of people, which endangers both themselves and the surrounding area. To prevent such conflicts, meetings have been held with the staff of the Regional Landfill for Solid Household Waste, as well as in the prison facility located in the area.
