GERB-SDS could back candidates from both governing and opposition parties for the new Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), MP Raya Nazaryan said in parliament today.

She spoke to reporters before a meeting of the legal affairs committee, which is hearing candidates for the SJC from the parliamentary quota. Nazaryan believes parliament needs candidates to elect a new council, and she called the procedure one of its important tasks.

After the hearing, the GERB-SDS group will meet and decide how to vote in the chamber.

Nazaryan voted in the presidential and vice-presidential election that chose Bulgaria's seventh president. Her 14-year-old son, who now has an ID card, voted too. She took him to set an example for young people. "We must set an example for young people and make them aware that voting is not only a right but a duty of every responsible citizen," she said.

Nazaryan left analysis of the election to political scientists. She said new political storylines lie ahead, and parliament must catch up after losing two weeks of work because of the vote.

On 20 October we reported that Georgi Chinev, administrative head of the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Burgas, is a candidate for elected member of the SJC from the prosecutors' quota. Magistrates from the appellate, regional and district prosecutor's offices in Burgas put him forward.

The 2027 budget has yet to be submitted to parliament and debated.
