The Bulgarian Primate, His Holiness Patriarch Daniel, will perform a water blessing at one of the most picturesque high-mountain lakes in Rila - "Bubrek", official representatives of the Sofia Holy Metropolis reported.

The initiative "On the Path of Faith", which is held under the patronage of President Rumen Radev, includes a pilgrimage route tracing the historical path of the holy relics of Saint John of Rila. The route starts on August 1st from Sofia and ends in the heart of the Rila Holy Monastery.

The route of about 120 kilometers passes through the Vitosha, Verila, and Rila mountain ranges, challenging participants with extremely challenging terrain conditions. Orthodox Christians overcome steep slopes, sometimes sleep in tents, and rely on limited household conveniences.

In a statement to journalists in the "St. George" rotunda, Patriarch Daniel emphasized the spiritual essence of this journey. "Although the path is not easy, participants see a deep meaning in fasting, prayer, and inner transformation," the Primate shared.

A historical reference reveals that Saint John of Rila is considered the heavenly patron of the Bulgarian people and the founder of hermetic monasticism. His holy relics passed through an interesting historical path - from Sofia through Tarnovo, until in 1469 they were solemnly returned to the Rila Monastery.

This year's edition of "The Rila Miracle Worker" will include a hierarchical vespers at the "Virgin's Veil" church in Dupnitsa at 6:00 PM, followed by a water blessing at the "Bubrek" lake. Patriarch Daniel will perform this ritual for the second consecutive year, continuing the tradition of spiritual pilgrimage.

The initiative demonstrates a living interest among the Orthodox community and continues to attract believers who seek not only a physical challenge but also spiritual growth in the footsteps of the saint.
