A military drone marked "Shahed" has been found on the beach in front of the anti-aircraft range near Shabla, Shabla mayor Mariyan Zhechev said. The sea probably washed it ashore, and it is suspected of carrying an explosive charge.
A member of the public walking along the shore saw it first and raised the alarm.
The military has been told. A specialist team will check the drone and make it safe today, 6 November. Initial information is that the team will reach the beach later in the day.
The word "Shahed" is written on the body, Zhechev said. It is the name of Iranian attack drones that hit their targets by exploding on impact. The marking alone does not show the model, where the drone came from or what it was built for.
It is not known whether any charge is left in the drone. Officials have also not said where it came from, how long it was in the water or how it reached the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.
Drones have been found near Shabla before. On 28 August the navy was called out to a report of a drone about a kilometre north of the local lighthouse. A check showed it was not dangerous, and the military took it to the naval base in Varna.
Three sea drones hit the container ship CONTSHIP JET on 28 October, and it sank off Shabla. On 4 November we reported that a container and a tank surfaced off Tsarevo, but it has not been established whether they came from the ship.
The same day, specialist teams also collected remains of unmanned aerial vehicles from the beaches at Chernomorets and Ahtopol.
