Customs officers at the Malko Tarnovo border checkpoint seized 1,689 undeclared imitation designer perfumes from a minivan entering Bulgaria from Turkey, customs officials said.

The foreign-registered minivan reached the border at about 11.40pm on Wednesday, 4 November. The driver is from North Macedonia.

At customs control, he said he was carrying only personal luggage and had nothing to declare. Inspectors found boxes of women's and men's perfumes and eau de toilette among his belongings. They are imitations of various luxury brands and carry the labels of well-known global brands.

Officers confiscated the perfumes and issued the driver a citation for an administrative offence under the Customs Act.

A few days ago, Malko Tarnovo customs officers seized 4,000,000 undeclared Turkish lira from a suitcase belonging to a passenger on a minibus coming in from Turkey. The check took place on 16 October, and officers issued a citation under the Currency Act.
