Children and students in Nessebar, Sveti Vlas, Ravda and Orizare took part in events for a clean sea, care for marine life and environmental education on 31 October, Black Sea Day, Nessebar council said.

The council says the events taught children respect and responsibility towards nature. It says they also show that environmental education can be useful, interesting and inspiring.

Students from Lyuben Karavelov secondary school in Nessebar boarded a local fishing boat. The captain told them which species live in the Black Sea, how fish are caught and how fishermen live. They also talked about protecting the sea and using natural resources responsibly.

Another group from the school built a model dolphin, the symbol of Lyuben Karavelov and part of its Eco Code. An exhibition showed sea creatures from the underwater world. In the Old Town, students met representatives of the Nessebar Children's Centre and talked about the Black Sea as a natural treasure of Bulgaria, its cleanliness and the creatures that live in it.

At the Moryache kindergarten, children from the first group took part in eco activities, made a model of the sea floor and watched presentations about a clean sea. Each child drew a small dolphin and made an eco-pledge for the future. Models of lighthouses, shell panels and drawings the children made with their parents are on display in the kindergarten's foyer. There are also glass jars of sand, pebbles and shells the children collected as pieces of summer.

The Pchelitsa group at the Kalina Malina kindergarten went on a "sea adventure" of games and discoveries. The children's message is: "The sea is not just for holidays. It is a home we must protect!" At the Yana Laskova kindergarten, children sang songs, recited poems and did creative activities on a sea theme.

At the Saints Cyril and Methodius primary school in Sveti Vlas, students from different grades made projects, posters, boards, models of the sea world and colourful sea creatures. Some worked with natural materials, while others learned facts about the Black Sea, its biodiversity and its importance for nature and people. The council said the children's work showed that a clean sea is a shared responsibility and starts with small personal steps.

Students at the Saints Cyril and Methodius primary school in Ravda made boards and drawings about the beauty of the sea and its protection.

In Orizare, the G. S. Rakovski primary school and the Nessebar Children's Centre held a joint event on protecting the sea and on children's eco-culture. It included games, contests and practical tasks about the riches of the sea, its creatures and protecting natural resources.

Divers from across the country cleaned the sea floor around the Bridge in Burgas for Black Sea Day, we reported on 31 October. The Friends of the Sea – Burgas association organised the action.

Students from classes 10B and 10G at the Ivan Vazov vocational school of technology made drawings and videos with messages about protecting the sea.
