Burgas has more reports of breaches of election rules and of people's rights than any other part of Bulgaria. Of 461 reports to the Interior Ministry since the presidential and vice-presidential election process began, 99 were filed with the Burgas regional police directorate (ODMVR).

Most people report vote buying, Burgas district prosecutor Maria Markova told Bulgarian National Radio (BNR). "Selling votes to back a certain candidate for president or vice president. These are the most common reports," she said.

The Burgas District Prosecutor's Office has opened about 10 case files on these reports. Markova says that is a reasonable number, as the office has seven local branches. Prosecutors in each branch have worked on the files they received.

"I wouldn't say the number is very large, it is usual for election days," Markova said.

Police check every report and then send it to the prosecutor's office. The Interior Ministry is also running operations with other agencies.

Burgas region also led earlier Interior Ministry figures on reports of election violations, which we covered on 1 November: 97 of 415 as of 8:00am. Most reports across Bulgaria were about suspected vote buying.

People who think their voting rights have been violated can report it to district prosecutors. Their phone numbers are posted at the entrance of every polling station.
