Anyone planning to drive in the coming days should have their car ready for winter, the Road Infrastructure Agency (API) has said. Rain and falling temperatures are forecast.

It will snow in the Balkan Mountains, Vitosha, Rila and Pirin. Light snow fell today at the Petrohan pass.

Regional road offices are watching the forecast. If needed, they are ready to treat roads in the passes and high mountain areas.

API advises drivers to take more care and set their speed to the conditions. It also asks them to keep their distance, avoid sudden moves and not overtake snow ploughs. The agency says cars that are not ready for winter block traffic and get in the way of other drivers and snow-clearing machines.

Data on the state of national roads is gathered at API's situation centre, which works 24 hours a day all year round.
