Andrey Gyurov and Iliana Yotova Congratulated the Jewish Community on Passover

Caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov met with representatives of the Jewish community in Bulgaria on the occasion of the major religious holiday of Passover, the government press service announced on Facebook.

The chairwoman of the Organization of Jews in Bulgaria “Shalom”, Dr. Alina Levy, presented the Prime Minister with the symbols of Passover – unleavened bread-matzah and kosher wine. She expressed her and the Israeli people's gratitude in Bulgaria to the institution for always keeping its doors open to the Israeli community, and to all Bulgarians for their warm attitude. Dr. Levy reminded on the eve of the holiday that freedom is not just a word, but that one must work for it, because history has proven that miracles alone are not enough, the cabinet's press service informed.

The meeting was also attended by the chairman of the Central Israelite Spiritual Council Maxim Delchev, the chairman of the Federation of Zionists in Bulgaria Nikolay Galabov, the director of the representative office of the American Jewish Committee for Bulgaria Victor Melamed, Yosef Solomon, Chief Rabbi of the Chabad Center for Bulgaria and Ino Itzhak, chairman of the Organization of Bulgarian Jews in Israel “Ehud Oley Bulgaria”.

Andrey Gyurov stated that the Bulgarian and Jewish people share an important historical episode that inextricably links them in a spirit of mutual respect and with a symbol of gratitude.

President Iliana Yotova met with representatives of the Jewish community in our country yesterday on the occasion of the major religious holiday of Passover. She said that the Passover holiday symbolizes the exit from slavery to freedom, but in order to be a free person, one must carry in one's heart love for one's neighbor, justice and tolerance, a desire to hear and help others – values ​​that are confessed by all people, regardless of religion.
