The Aheloy celebrates Ascension Day with a solemn folklore festival

Today the Orthodox Church celebrated the great Christian holiday of Ascension Day, and along with it, the residents of Medovo and Acheloios celebrated the patron saint's day of the two settlements. In Acheloios, the day began with a solemn liturgy in the church, after which the local custom requires a gathering and the cooking of a kurban for health. The tradition was observed - after the services in the two villages, the people were given blessed lamb soup, and the XVIII Regional Thracian Christian Folklore Festival "Spasovden" began in the Acheloios park.

The official opening of the festival was made by the Mayor of Pomorie Municipality Ivan Alexiev, the Mayor of Acheloios Dimitar Neychev, the Chairman of the Pomorie Municipal Council Adam Adamov, the Deputy Mayor Yancho Iliev, the Mayor of Kableshkovo Ivaylo Ivanov, municipal councilors and public figures. A record number of performers will participate in this year's edition of the festival, who will perform in two places in the city. The event is also the first major event on the new stage, realized under the project "Construction, reconstruction, repair and purchase of facilities for tourist attractions related to the local natural, cultural and historical heritage, providing services with cognitive or educational purpose in the city of Acheloios".

Over 150 group and individual performers will be evaluated by an honorary jury consisting of: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nikolay Gurbanov, Dimo Karabelov, Hristiyan Hristov, Dimitar Yordanov, Stoyan Ganchev, Lyubomir Haralambov and Penka Petrova. The children from the "Delfinche" group in the Kindergarten "Temenuzhka" in the city of Acheloios also took part and were awarded a certificate. The festive events in Acheloios continue with a concert of the local ensembles at 7:00 pm in the city park, and the singer Zhechka Slaninkova and friends will be guests.
