Burgas will host two free events on 29 and 30 October on the future of the Black Sea, covering climate, regional development and new technology, Burgas council said. Anyone can take part if they register in advance.

The first day is a workshop at the Flora Exhibition Centre. The next day, the international forum "Black Sea 2030" takes place at the International Congress Centre in Burgas. Both events are demonstration days for the Blue Gates project.

Burgas council leads the project, and partners come from Turkey, Romania and Ukraine. The aim is to promote a blue and smart transition in the Black Sea region. The European Union co-funds the project through the Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin 2021–2027 programme. Its code is BSB00189.

The workshop is called "Burgas: from coastal challenges to sustainable solutions" and runs from 10:00 to 16:00. Project partners and local organisations will share good practice on developing coastal areas and coping with climate change.

The workshop will present a method for awarding a "blue label" under the EU Mission "Restore our Ocean and Waters". Burgas is the pilot site for testing it. The council's climate unit will show its own initiatives and project ideas. Working groups will look for practical ways to help the Ezero park cope better with climate change.

The forum "Black Sea 2030 – Security, Sustainability, Innovation" is organised by Burgas council and the association Prospects M. Guests will include representatives of European and national institutions, local authorities, universities, business and civic groups.

Three discussions will cover security in the Black Sea region, turning shared ideas into real projects, and how technology can help the region develop.

Students, young scientists and entrepreneurs from Burgas Free University, Prof. Dr Asen Zlatarov University and Sofia University "St Kliment Ohridski" will present their ideas for the sea in the panel "Voices of the Future. Black Sea 2030 through the eyes of the new generation".

In the exhibition area, universities and companies will show their projects. Guests can meet and look for new partners.

At the end, the main messages on the region's future will be summed up, and the scientific conference of the Marine Science Society will open officially.
