Yellow code for July 25: storms and intense rainfall in Bulgaria, calmer by the sea

On July 25, the weather over Bulgaria will remain unstable, and the NIMH has declared a yellow code for intense rainfall, thunderstorms, and temporarily strong wind gusts. The day will pass with alternating sunny intervals, cumulonimbus clouds, and conditions for short-lived but locally significant showers.

Burgas and region

In Burgas and the region, the day will be warm but more unstable than the previous ones. Air temperatures are expected to be around 28°–30°, and the probability of precipitation will be around 40%–60%, especially in the afternoon and evening. Brief rains and isolated thunderstorms are possible, without ruling out locally more intense downpours.

The sea water temperature near Burgas will remain around 25–27°C, which maintains the feeling of a summer vacation. The wind will be light to moderate, with temporary increases as cloud cells pass, and a breeze will be felt along the coast. The preliminary safety assessment for swimming is a yellow flag due to the changeable weather and possible afternoon storms.

Sofia and region

In Sofia and the region, July 25 will start with clearer weather, but the atmosphere will become unstable in the afternoon. Temperatures will range from around 17° in the morning to 27°–29° during the day, and the probability of short-lived showers and thunderstorms will be increased.

The wind will be light to moderate, and may temporarily strengthen during storm cells. There is no sea water, and no swimming flag assessment applies, but caution is recommended in the urban environment during sudden downpours and thunderstorms.

Eastern Bulgaria

In Eastern Bulgaria, it will remain warmer but with conditions for local afternoon storms. Temperatures will reach around 29°–31°, and minimum values will be in the range of 19°–22°. The probability of precipitation is higher in the far northeastern and southeastern regions.

The wind will be moderate, and a breeze circulation will be felt by the sea. The sea water will be around 25–27°C, but the swell may temporarily increase during gusty winds. The preliminary swimming assessment is a yellow flag because the sea remains pleasant but not completely calm.

Western Bulgaria

In Western Bulgaria, more pronounced instability with rain, thunderstorms, and temporary wind gusts is expected. Maximum temperatures will be around 26°–29°, and short but intense rains will fall in individual areas.

The wind will be moderate, at times stronger as storms pass. There is no sea water, so no swimming assessment applies, but for mountain and open areas, the day will require caution due to the risk of thunderstorms.

In the mountains

In the mountains, July 25 will be suitable mainly for early outings, because cumulonimbus clouds will develop in the afternoon. Temperatures will be lower – around 13°–16° in the high parts and up to 22°–24° in the lower mountain areas.

The probability of precipitation is high, and there will also be conditions for thunderstorms. The wind will be light to moderate, with possible short-lived intensifications along the ridges. There is no sea water, and tourists should plan their hikes carefully and watch for rapid changes in weather.

Black Sea coast

Along the Black Sea coast, the day will remain relatively more suitable for the beach, but not without the risk of afternoon showers. Temperatures will be around 27°–30°, and the probability of rain will increase towards the second half of the day.

The sea water will be around 25–27°C, and the wind will be light to moderate, locally temporarily stronger. For swimming, the preliminary assessment is a yellow flag – conditions are acceptable, but with increased caution due to short-lived storms and possible wind strengthening.
