The Ministry of Health has extended the ban on the export of certain medications, including insulins, antibiotics, and Mesalazine, until January 23, 2026. The decision is driven by supply issues and reports of shortages in pharmacies.

The Ministry of Health has extended the ban on the export of some important medicines, with the aim of ensuring their availability on the market for Bulgarian patients. The ban, published on the Ministry's website, is in effect until January 23, 2026.

The ban covers the following medications:

Insulins and analogues
Sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors
Blood sugar lowering medications (excluding insulins) - Semaglutide
Antibiotics - Azithromycin (powder for oral suspension and granules for oral suspension)
Mesalazine

The reasons for extending the ban include difficulties in supplying pharmacies, signals of shortages, irregularity or delays in deliveries. The problem with Mesalazine is particularly acute, with the most signals of unavailability registered for the tablet form of the drug. Mesalazine is used to treat ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease.
