After rainy Thursday, Friday is drier and two degrees warmer
Yesterday it rained in Burgas almost all day. Today the chance of rain drops to 18 percent, and if it does drip, it will be very little, just enough to wet car windows. The highest temperature rises from 14 to 16 degrees.
The wind is weakening. It is still blowing from the north, at about 12 km/h, but gusts reach 24 km/h, whereas yesterday they were up to 35. There will hardly be any sun: of the ten daylight hours, it will shine for about one.
Humid morning, warmest at 2 p.m.
At 8 a.m. the thermometer shows 13 degrees, the sky is overcast, and humidity is 84 percent. The air is heavy and cool. The north wind comes from the bay and is felt more along the seafront promenade and in the Sea Garden than between the apartment blocks in Lazur or Izgrev.
It is warmest around midday. At 2 p.m. humidity drops to 69 percent, but the clouds do not break up and, with the wind, it feels like at most 14 degrees. The UV index is 2, so sunscreen is not needed.
At 8 p.m. it is 14 degrees, and humidity rises again to 80 percent. The sun rises at 06:41 and sets at 17:06, so it is already dark outside after work. The air is clean, its quality index is 34, which is a good level.
The sea is 17 degrees, waves do not exceed 0.4 meters
The sea is calm, without white foam on the waves. It is cold for swimming, except for the winter swimmers who go in all year round. With an overcast sky and a north wind, getting out of the water is the most unpleasant part, so a towel and dry clothes should be at hand.
October 30 through the years: from 11 to 20 degrees
The archive for this date shows big differences between years. In 1996 the day started at 8 degrees and reached 18, without rain. In 2006 it was between 6 and 15 degrees and it rained 12.6 liters per square meter. Only this year is rainy in the list.
The coldest October 30 of these years was in 2016, with temperatures between 6 and 11 degrees and dry weather. In 2021 it was from 11 to 15 degrees, almost like today. The warmest day was last year: the morning started at 7 degrees, and in the afternoon the thermometer showed 20.
On average, the highest temperature on this date in these five years is about 16 degrees, the same as today, so the afternoon is quite typical for the end of October. The mornings are different. In four of the five years the minimum was between 6 and 8 degrees, while tonight is a few degrees milder.
Long series of measurements show that in recent decades autumns on the Black Sea coast and the sea itself have been warming, but this is not visible from five separate days.
A jacket for the morning, the umbrella can stay at home
In the morning and evening you will need a jacket or a thicker sweatshirt. At midday the jacket can be taken off for a while, but because of the wind by the sea it is better to keep it on your shoulders. You will hardly need an umbrella.
For running and cycling, the most comfortable time is between 12 and 15 hours. Along the seaside promenade the wind blows in your face when running north toward Sarafovo, and helps on the way back. A walk in the Sea Garden is pleasant even without sun, as long as you are dressed warmly.
The asphalt in the morning may still be wet from yesterday, especially on shady streets and where there are fallen leaves. It is Friday and many people set off for the weekend after work. Anyone leaving the city after 5 p.m. will be driving in the dark, so turn on your lights in time and keep a greater distance.
Saturday without rain and with weaker wind
Tomorrow is cloudy, between 12 and 15 degrees, without precipitation, and the wind shifts to northeast and drops to about 7 km/h.
