Thursday brings high temperatures of up to 37°C in many regions. In Burgas, it will be sunny, with around 28°C, warm sea water, and beach conditions.

On August 20, sunny and hot weather will prevail over Bulgaria. Temperatures will rise, and the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology has announced a yellow code for high temperatures in almost the entire country. Along the Black Sea coast, the heat will be less pronounced due to the marine influence.

The preliminary assessment for swimming is only indicative. The flag signaling at lifeguard stations and their instructions are mandatory for all beach visitors.

Burgas and the region

In Burgas, the weather will be sunny throughout the day. The minimum temperature will be around 19–20°C, and the maximum – 28°C. The probability of precipitation is very low – around 0–2%.

The sea water temperature near Burgas will be around 25–26°C. The wind will be mainly from the north-northeast, with an average speed of 5–7 m/s, temporarily with gusts up to 9–11 m/s. The sea state is expected to be around 2 points, in places temporarily up to 3 points.

The preliminary safety assessment for swimming is a green flag. Conditions are good for the beach, but in case of increasing wind or sea state, visitors should follow the signals of the lifeguards.

Sofia and the region

In Sofia and the surrounding area, it will be sunny and hot. Minimum temperatures will be between 16°C and 19°C, and daytime temperatures will reach 33–35°C. The probability of precipitation is low – up to 10%, with the possibility of slight cumulus cloud development over the mountain areas around the capital in the afternoon hours.

A light, temporarily moderate wind will blow from the east-northeast at a speed of 2–5 m/s. Data for sea water temperature and swimming flag do not apply to Sofia. It is recommended to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during the hottest hours.

Eastern and Western Bulgaria

In Western Bulgaria, it will be mostly sunny and hot. Maximum temperatures will be between 32°C and 37°C, and in the lowlands, they may reach 38°C in some places. The probability of precipitation is below 10%. The wind will be light, mainly from the east and northeast, with a speed of 2–5 m/s.

In Eastern Bulgaria, it will remain sunny, with temperatures between 29°C and 34°C. Along the coast, values will be lower, while in the interior of the region, it will be hotter. Precipitation is almost not expected. The wind will be light to moderate, from the northeast, with a speed of 4–7 m/s.

For the inland regions, data for sea water temperature and swimming flag do not apply. The yellow code for hot weather requires increased caution when working and exercising outdoors, especially between 12:00 and 17:00.

In the mountains

In the mountains, it will be mostly sunny. In the afternoon, development of cumulus clouds is possible over individual massifs, but the probability of precipitation remains low – around 10–20%. At 1200 meters, the maximum temperature will be around 24°C, and at 2000 meters – around 17°C.

A light to moderate wind will blow from the east-northeast, in high parts temporarily up to 6–8 m/s. Indicators for sea water temperature and swimming flag do not apply. Mountain tourists should carry enough water and sunscreen.

The Black Sea coast

Along the Black Sea coast, it will be sunny. Maximum temperatures will be between 27°C and 30°C, and the probability of precipitation is up to 10%. The sea breeze will limit the heat during the afternoon hours.

The sea water temperature will be around 24–26°C. The wind will be light to moderate from the northeast, with a speed of 4–7 m/s. The sea state will be 2 points, in open areas temporarily up to 3 points.

The preliminary safety assessment for swimming along the Black Sea coast is a green flag. The sea will be suitable for the beach and swimming, provided there is no change in the official signaling of the specific beach.
