The second day of July will bring a temporary breath of freshness after the previous heat, but also an increased risk of stormy weather. The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) has announced a yellow code for downpours and thunderstorms across the entire country for July 2.
Burgas and the region
In Burgas and the region, the day will begin mostly sunny, but cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds will develop in the afternoon, with thunder and rain in some places. Maximum temperatures will be between 28° and 30°, and the probability of short-lived but intense rainfall in the afternoon hours is high, with conditions for hail in separate areas.
The wind over Burgas will be light to moderate, from the southeast. The seawater temperature will remain around 26°-27°C, and the sea state will be 2-3 degrees. Because of the expected afternoon storms, the preliminary safety assessment for swimming is a yellow flag.
Sofia and the region
In Sofia and the district, a yellow warning code for dangerous precipitation is also in effect. The day will start calmly and sunny, but after noon, cumulonimbus clouds will develop with short-lived rain and thunderstorms, intense in some places and accompanied by hail. The maximum temperature in the capital will reach around 28°-30°.
The wind will shift from the west-northwest, light to moderate, which will bring a feeling of cooler weather. There is no seawater in the area, so a swimming flag does not apply.
Eastern Bulgaria
In Eastern Bulgaria, the morning will be mostly clear, but in the afternoon, the atmosphere will become active with cumulonimbus clouds. In many places, there will be short-lived, temporarily intense rainfall and thunderstorms, with conditions for hail. Temperatures will vary between 28° and 33°.
The wind will blow up to moderate, from the east-southeast. Along the coastal parts, the seawater will be around 26°-27°C with a sea state of 2-3 degrees, and given the afternoon storms, the swimming assessment is a yellow flag.
Western Bulgaria
In Western Bulgaria, cloud cover will be significant from the morning, with short-lived rain and thunder in some places. During the day, conditions for storms will persist, and the wind will shift from the west-northwest, light to moderate. Daytime temperatures will drop compared to previous days and will be between 28° and 33°.
There is no seawater in the area, so a swimming safety flag does not apply.
In the mountains
In mountainous regions, cumulonimbus clouds will develop around and after noon, and in many places, there will be short-lived rain and thunderstorms, temporarily intense and significant in quantity in some areas. The wind will be light to moderate, from the west-northwest.
The maximum temperature at an altitude of 1200 meters will be around 22°, and at 2000 meters - around 14°. There is no seawater, so a swimming assessment does not apply.
Black Sea coast
Along the Black Sea coast, the day will be mostly sunny in the first half, but in the afternoon, cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds will develop, with rain and thunder in some places. Maximum temperatures will reach 28°-30°, and the wind will blow light to moderate, from the southeast.
The seawater temperature along the coast will be 26°-27°, and the sea state - 2-3 degrees. Because of the expected afternoon storms, the preliminary safety assessment for swimming is a yellow flag.
