The 22nd International Symposium on Solubility Phenomena and Related Equilibrium Processes (22ISSP) officially opened in the capital today. As reported by the press center of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS), the scientific forum will run until September 3 and is being hosted by the National Center of Excellence in Mechatronics and Clean Technologies, located on the "Geo Milev" campus.

The prestigious event brings together a wide range of scientists, researchers, and specialists from 18 different countries. Participants include representatives from nations such as Germany, Spain, Portugal, the USA, Australia, Brazil, and others. The organization of the forum has been entrusted to the Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry at BAS, in close cooperation with the "Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov" University of Burgas, and the event is included in the official calendar of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC).

The symposium program covers a broad spectrum of contemporary scientific topics, including:

  • solubility phenomena;
  • phase equilibria;
  • thermodynamics of solutions;
  • modeling and experimental determination of equilibrium data.
Special attention is paid to the practical significance of this research in fields such as environmental protection, pharmacy, materials science, and modern energy technologies.

A significant place in the program is occupied by the satellite workshop titled "Tailored Properties of Ionic Liquid Electrolytes for Sustainable Energy Storage Applications." It is dedicated to the properties of ionic liquids viewed as electrolytes for sustainable energy storage technologies. The workshop is closely linked to an IUPAC project and brings together experts involved in standardizing electrolyte characterization methods, covering parameters such as their stability, viscosity, electrical conductivity, and interfacial properties. During the conference, the "Franzosini Prize" and the "Balarew Award" will also be presented to honor significant scientific achievements in the field.

BAS emphasizes that hosting such a symposium is a key opportunity to promote Bulgarian science and to establish Sofia as a preferred venue for international scientific forums. The event gathers specialists with diverse backgrounds, united by their interest in the fundamental processes underlying a number of modern technologies. Following the conclusion of the symposium, the achieved scientific results will be presented to the broader professional community in specialized publications, including the international scientific journal "Pure and Applied Chemistry".
