Temenuzhka Petkova: Budget 2026 is scandalous, with record debt and curtailed rights

Critical parameters of the 2026 Budget

GERB-SDS MP Temenuzhka Petkova described the financial framework for 2026 as "scandalous." According to her, the government plans to take on new debt of a record 10.1 billion euros, despite initial promises of only 3.8 billion euros.

"They promised to fight the oligarchy, but we see that they are fighting civil servants very successfully," Petkova stated.

Main highlights of the criticism:

• Increase in spending: Expenditures have been increased by 2.8 billion euros compared to previous estimates, with 2.3 billion euros allocated to capital investments – a sector that the ruling party previously criticized.
• Social consequences: Changes to the Labor Code affect people working 4-hour shifts, reducing their vacation time and seniority bonuses.
• Religious denominations and municipalities: Subsidies for religious denominations have been cut by 25%, and the list of municipal projects has been removed, with funds now to be distributed subjectively.
• Hidden costs: Starting August 1, vignettes will increase in price by 30%, and the National Children's Hospital project remains without any funding for 2026.
