Revolut customers in the UK, France and Spain could not log in to the app or pay by card in shops on the morning of 20 October 2026. The company confirmed a "disruption to several services" and said customers' money and data are safe.
Revolut said on X that its engineers are working on a fix, and it apologised for the trouble. Complaints peaked at about 8am, when Downdetector, a site that tracks outages, logged more than 1,500 reports, City AM reports.
People could not log in to their accounts, make transfers or withdraw cash. This time cards were also declined in shops, which rarely happens in bank outages, Yahoo Finance says. Some users saw the messages "something went wrong" and "please try again later", media report.
The company's system status page showed 30 features were partly down. They included card payments, cash machines, transfers, crypto trading and services for business customers, The Insider reports. Status pages for all 38 countries on Revolut's list showed an outage warning, including EU countries, the US, Australia, Japan and Brazil.
The status page itself kept showing for a long time that everything was working. Users on X wrote that they learned of the outage from there, not from the app.
The same morning, Google reported a major problem in its London cloud region. The company reported "increased errors and network disruptions" and apologised to those affected. In all, 31 Google services were hit.
The banks Lloyds and HSBC, Royal Mail and the Rightmove website also had problems, British media report. The bank Halifax said on X that some of its customers had trouble with its app and website. The personal finance app Emma linked its own outage to the Google incident. Tink, an open banking provider, said that through its link to Revolut it could not get account data or start payments.
Revolut uses Google's cloud and widened its partnership with the company in September 2025. But there is no official confirmation that the two outages are linked. There is no sign of a cyber attack or a leak of customer data.
Revolut has more than 80 million customers worldwide, about 13 million of them in the UK, and operates as a bank in more than 30 countries. It is not clear whether the outage hit all of them. The company has not given a cause or a date for full recovery.
In September 2026, Revolut admitted it had handed customer data to fraudsters after it accepted a fake request from Italian state authorities. It later reported a separate incident involving share-trading accounts linked to the broker DriveWealth.
