Caretaker Government Approves Funding for February 2026 Up to 900 Million Euros

The caretaker government approved at its meeting today the financing of expenses for the month of February 2026 in the amount of up to 900 million euros for personnel, social payments and other expenses under the state budget, and transfers from the state budget to the budget of the state social security, the National Health Insurance Fund and the account for funds from the European Union of the National Fund. The funds will be at the expense of balances from the previous year, the government information service announced.

With this approach, the provision of the regulated increases in expenses and transfers and the normal financing of the activities of the ministries and institutions is achieved, as their expenses will be carried out in accordance with the normative acts in force, the statement says.

The financing is carried out on the basis of Art. 3, para. 3 of the Law on the Collection of Revenues and the Execution of Expenditures in 2026 until the adoption of the Law on the State Budget of the Republic of Bulgaria for 2026, the Law on the Budget of State Social Security for 2026 and the Law on the Budget of the National Health Insurance Fund for 2026.

According to the cited article and paragraph of the law, with a decision of the Council of Ministers, capital expenditures and, if necessary, other expenditures and/or transfers can be financed at the expense of balances from the previous year, with the exception of the funds of the State Fund for guaranteeing the sustainability of the state pension system, BTA clarifies.

Today, the "Gyurov" cabinet approved changes to the extension law for the budget, which are entering for consideration by the parliament.
