A ceremony at St. Alexander Nevsky Square in Sofia marked the beginning of Robert Fico's official visit to our country, where he was welcomed by Prime Minister Rumen Radev. During his visit, the Prime Minister of Slovakia shared his satisfaction with how the Bulgarian minority is thriving in his country.
An important focus of the discussions between the two leaders, who held a private meeting at the Council of Ministers building, was Bulgaria's aspiration for membership in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Robert Fico declared that his country gives its full support to this process. He emphasized the expert nature of the organization and cited his own experience as an example, describing Slovakia's membership in the OECD as extremely successful.
During the joint briefing at the Council of Ministers building, the guests also drew attention to the reviving flow of tourists from Slovakia to Bulgarian resorts. Robert Fico highlighted the direct flight between the two nations, which facilitates travel, and recalled that in 2025, over 80,000 Slovak citizens chose Bulgaria as their destination. The Prime Minister expressed an optimistic forecast that the current year will prove even more successful than the previous one in terms of visits.
