Forecast for August 6: The heat intensifies across the country

Thursday, August 6, is shaping up to be one of the hottest days in the current heatwave. Meteorologists warn that the country is entering the most intense period of the heat, and values inland will approach the upper limit of climatic norms for the month.

Weather in Burgas and the region

In Burgas, a maximum temperature of around 29–30°C is expected, while at night thermometers will show around 21–22°C. The probability of precipitation is close to zero, and the day will be mostly sunny with temporary increases in cloud cover in the afternoon.

The sea water temperature in the Burgas area will be around 26–27°C, which provides very good conditions for swimming. The wind will blow from the east-northeast, moderate, temporarily strong, with a speed of about 7–8 m/s.

The preliminary assessment of conditions for safe swimming in the Burgas region is a yellow flag due to the stronger wind and slight sea state, expected to be around 2–3 on the Douglas scale.

Sofia and the region

In the capital, maximum temperatures are expected to be around 28–30°C, and at night – around 16–18°C. In the afternoon, a temporary increase in cloud cover is possible, but significant precipitation is not expected. The wind will be light to moderate, coming from the north-northeast.

Eastern and Western Bulgaria

In the eastern regions of the country, maximum temperatures will reach 33–35°C, and in some places, it is possible for this limit to be exceeded. In the western parts, temperatures will be between 30–33°C. In the afternoon, short-term showers with thunderstorms are expected in the northwestern and mountainous regions, while over Southern Bulgaria, cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds will develop with precipitation in some places – more intense in the Strandzha area and the Eastern Rhodopes. The wind pattern will be moderate from the north-northeast, in Eastern Bulgaria temporarily strong from the east-northeast.

In the mountains

In the mountains, sunny weather will prevail during the first half of the day, but in the afternoon, cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds will develop with short-term showers and thunderstorms in some places. The maximum temperature at an altitude of 1200 meters will be around 24°C, and at 2000 meters – around 15–16°C. The wind will be moderate, coming from the north-northeast.

Black Sea coast

Along the Black Sea coast, it will be mostly sunny, with an afternoon increase in cloud cover. Along the southern coast, cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds will develop with short-term showers and thunderstorms. Maximum temperatures will be between 27 and 30°C. The temperature of the sea water along the coast will vary between 26 and 27°C. The wind pattern will be moderate, temporarily strong, coming from the east-northeast, and the sea state will reach 2–3 on the Douglas scale.

According to preliminary assessments, conditions for safe swimming along the Southern Black Sea coast will be marked with a yellow flag due to the increased wind and more noticeable sea state, while in certain more sheltered sections of the coast, a green flag may be maintained.
