Older people are among the most vulnerable groups in society, often becoming victims of crimes such as home and pickpocket thefts, robberies, property and telephone fraud. To increase the legal culture and awareness of the elderly on how to protect themselves from such crimes, the "Contingent and Prevention" Sector at the General Directorate of the National Police has launched a National Campaign "Safety without Age".
By the end of the year, police officers in the country will hold meetings with elderly people in municipalities, community centers and pensioners' clubs to inform them about the different types of fraud, home and pickpocket thefts, the ways they are committed and how to protect themselves. Meetings will also be held with directors of social homes and places of accommodation for the elderly, to discuss the possible dangers and consequences of the unlawful use of personal data/documents of the residents and how to inform the Ministry of Interior authorities in case of suspicions of such cases.
Working meetings will also be held with the management of the Regional Directorates of Social Assistance, where they will be familiarized with the typical cases of crimes in which the elderly can be a risk group, and what specific preventive measures and timely exchange of information they can implement.
