Foreign minister Velislava Petrova held talks in Sofia with Azerbaijan's deputy foreign minister Elnur Mammadov. They discussed the strategic partnership between their countries, the Foreign Ministry press office said.
They also talked about closer cooperation in the economy and energy, and about better connectivity.
Mammadov is in Sofia for bilateral political consultations. Deputy foreign minister Ivanka Tasheva heads the Bulgarian delegation. Both sides noted positive momentum in their political dialogue. They discussed energy and transport links, including green energy corridors and the Trans-Caspian transport corridor, known as the "Middle Corridor".
The delegations identified chances for joint projects in the economy, energy, high technology, transport and logistics, tourism, culture and education. They said the Middle Corridor has a strategic role in building secure and sustainable supply chains.
Tasheva said the high-level connectivity summit is a chance for regional cooperation. She said it is also a chance to build sustainable transport and energy links between Europe and Asia. Bulgaria will host the summit in spring 2027.
They also discussed Russia's war against Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East, and how both conflicts affect regional and international security.
Mammadov met officials in the National Assembly and the Council of Ministers. At the Foreign Ministry he gave a public lecture, organised by the Diplomatic Institute at the foreign minister and the Student Diplomatic Club at Sofia University "St Kliment Ohridski".
