At the height of the fire-dangerous summer season, local authorities in Nesebar announced a large-scale initiative to raise public awareness about the risks of forest and field fires. The launched information campaigns "STOP FOREST FIRES - LEARN HOW" and "PROTECT THE HARVEST FROM FIRE" aim to reach the maximum number of residents and visitors of the municipality.
The statistical data are extremely worrying - nearly 97% of all forest fires are directly caused by human negligence. That is why the main focus of the campaign is to familiarize people with specific preventive measures and safety rules in forest areas.
With the onset of the spring-summer period, the risks of ignition significantly increase, especially in combination with adverse factors such as dry vegetation, high temperatures, and strong winds. Experts from the District Fire Safety and Population Protection Service emphasize the exceptional importance of following elementary precautionary measures.
Among the main recommendations are categorical prohibitions on throwing unextinguished cigarette butts, matches, glass objects in forest areas. All motor vehicles entering forest territories must be equipped with spark arrestors. Lighting an open fire is prohibited in the presence of wind or outside specially designated places.
In the event of a fire, citizens must take immediate and coordinated actions. The first step is a quick and accurate assessment of the situation - determining the exact location, direction, and speed of fire spread. It is mandatory to immediately notify 112 or the nearest municipal office.
Among the recommended initial measures are protecting the respiratory tract, evacuating people from the threatened area, and attempts to extinguish in the initial stage by covering with soil or sand. Experts emphasize that a quick and adequate response can prevent large-scale material damage and endangering human lives.
