During a NATO summit in Ankara, representatives from Bulgaria, Romania, and Turkey signed a strategic agreement to expand the scope of the joint mine countermeasures task force. The mission now also includes the protection of critical infrastructure, energy facilities, and underwater pipelines.

The decision is critical for restoring freedom of navigation in the region, which has become increasingly unstable since the start of the war in Ukraine. The three nations are relying on diplomatic and military expertise to ensure the energy and transport security of the entire Alliance.
