To transform road safety from a mere news topic into a shared cause, BNR Director-General Milen Mitev and Minister of Interior Ivan Demerdzhiev have officially sealed their partnership with a signature. With this act, the two institutions launched the joint campaign "The road is not for racing," the main goal of which is not just to report accidents, but to prevent them entirely by changing driver behavior.
According to Milen Mitev, the campaign would justify its purpose even if it manages to influence a single decision made behind the wheel. In turn, Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev emphasized that achieving lasting results requires uniting efforts and actively communicating on topics that concern society through public media. He called for a stronger focus on positive examples, which are important for shaping road culture.
This large-scale initiative is a logical continuation of the systemic actions taken by the Ministry of Interior to prevent serious accidents. The main focus is placed on:
- increasing public intolerance toward risky driving;
- encouraging tolerance and strict compliance with the rules;
- the personal commitment of every road user to avoid dangerous situations.
The campaign's diverse content includes preventive interviews and useful tips shared by driving instructors, automotive experts, and racing drivers. Traffic police officers and medical professionals who have witnessed severe accidents in the field will share their stories, while children will issue emotional appeals to adults for responsible behavior. Journalists from all BNR programs, as well as a number of singers, artists, and public figures, are actively joining the initiative.
The large-scale campaign comes just days after the Council of Ministers officially approved an Action Plan including regulatory, technical, and organizational measures. The purpose of the state document is to limit the risk of serious traffic accidents and improve overall road safety in the country.
