On July 15th, the weather in Bulgaria remains typically summery – with plenty of sun, high daytime temperatures, and local afternoon showers mainly over Western and Central Bulgaria, according to the official forecast prepared based on data from the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) and published in specialized meteorological portals.
Burgas and region
In Burgas and the region, the day will be mostly sunny with variable cloudiness and short showers at times. According to data from "Weather & Radar" for Wednesday, July 15th, the maximum air temperature will reach about 29°, and the minimum will be around 20°. The probability of precipitation is approximately 72%, with an expected rainfall amount of about 1.2 mm.
The wind over Burgas will be light to moderate, with a speed of about 4–7 m/s from easterly to northeasterly directions, according to current radar data. The temperature of the sea water along the Southern Black Sea coast is expected to be in the range of 24°–26°, and the sea state – slight to moderate, around 1–2 degrees.
Overall, the conditions for beach and swimming near Burgas are good, but in view of the variable cloudiness and isolated showers, the preliminary assessment for sea safety is yellow flag – suitable for swimming, but with attention to the sea state and possible brief thunderstorms in the interior.
Sofia and region
In Sofia and the surroundings, mostly sunny to partly cloudy weather is expected. The maximum temperatures will be around 31°–33°, and the minimums – around 16°–18°. During the second half of the day over Western Bulgaria and the area around the capital, cloudiness will increase and there will be scattered rain and thunder in places.
The wind in the Sofia field will be light to moderate, from the west-northwest, without significant change during the day. In the region, there is no sea water and a flag assessment does not apply, but avoiding physical exertion during the hottest hours is recommended.
Eastern Bulgaria
In Eastern Bulgaria, sunny weather will prevail for the greater part of the day, especially over the southeastern regions. The maximum temperatures will be between 27° and 31°, with values along the coast being slightly lower due to the maritime influence. The probability of precipitation is lower than that in the western part of the country, but local short showers are possible in the afternoon.
The wind will be light to moderate from the east-northeast. The sea water temperature along the eastern coast will be around 24°–26°, and the sea state – 1–2 degrees. The conditions for swimming along the eastern Black Sea coast are assessed mainly with a green flag, with transitions to yellow during temporary increases in wind and sea state.
Western Bulgaria
In Western Bulgaria, including regions such as Plovdiv and Blagoevgrad, the day will start sunny, but more significant cloudiness is expected over Western and Central Bulgaria, where it will rain and thunder in places in the afternoon. Maximum temperatures will be between 31° and 36°, and in some of the southern regions, a yellow code for high temperatures has been issued.
The wind will be light to moderate, mainly from the west-northwest. In these regions, there is no sea water and a flag assessment does not apply, but caution is recommended when working outdoors and good hydration is advised due to the high temperatures.
In the mountains
In the mountain ranges across the country on July 15th, there will be variable to significant cloudiness. Mainly around and after noon, short showers and thunderstorms are expected over Western and Central Bulgaria. The maximum temperature at about 1200 m will be close to 22°, and at 2000 m – around 18°.
A moderate north-northwesterly wind will blow, which will increase the feeling of coolness along the ridges. In the mountains, of course, there is no sea water, but hikers are advised to monitor local thunderstorm processes and avoid open areas in the afternoon hours.
Black Sea coast
Along the Black Sea coast, the weather will be mostly sunny with temporary increases in cloudiness, more pronounced over the northern coast. Maximum temperatures will be between 27° and 30°, and according to the forecasts for Varna and Burgas, a typical summer day with pleasant marine conditions is expected.
The sea water temperature will be around 24°–26°, and the sea state – 1–2 degrees. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate from the east-northeast. The general preliminary assessment for swimming safety along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast on July 15th is green flag, with local transitions to yellow in case of more wind or stormy cloud processes in the afternoon hours.
