On June 11, we can expect sunny and warm weather with temperatures up to 33°C in the country, but in the afternoon, thunderstorms are expected to form in Western Bulgaria, with a yellow code for precipitation in effect.

Weather in Burgas and the region on June 11

On June 11, typical early summer weather is expected in Burgas – sunny, warm, and suitable for the beach during most of the day, with more clouds later in the afternoon.

The minimum temperature in Burgas in the morning will be around 16–17°C, and the maximum during the day will reach about 25–26°C. The interior of the region (Aytos, Karnobat, Sredets) will be 1–2 degrees warmer.

The probability of precipitation in the Burgas area and the coastline remains low during the day – about 10–20%, as more serious thunderstorms will be concentrated mainly in Western and Central Bulgaria.

The sea water temperature near Burgas will be around 22–23°C, typical for the beginning of June and comfortable for swimming.

A moderate wind will blow, predominantly from the southeast along the coast, with speeds of about 4–8 m/s, which will create slight sea agitation of about 2 degrees.

Preliminary assessment for swimming safety along the Burgas coast on June 11:

  • morning and noon – green flag: calm sea conditions and very good conditions for swimming;
  • late afternoon – locally yellow flag on more exposed beaches during temporary strengthening of wind and waves.

Sofia and Sofia Region

In Sofia and the region, June 11 begins with sunny and warm weather, but in the afternoon, a rapid development of cumulonimbus clouds and an unstable atmosphere is expected.

The minimum temperature in the morning in the capital will be around 15°C, and the maximum – around 28–29°C.

Around and after noon, thunderstorms will develop over the Sofia field and surrounding mountains with short-lived but intense rainfall; hail is also possible. A yellow code for potentially dangerous weather has been issued for the western half of the country, including the city of Sofia and the Sofia region.

The wind will be light to moderate, shifting in direction around storms and with temporary strong gusts during thunderstorm activity.

Eastern and Western Bulgaria

Western Bulgaria

In Western Bulgaria (Vidin, Montana, Sofia-city and region, Pernik, Kyustendil, Blagoevgrad, Vratsa, Pleven, Pazardzhik, Plovdiv, Smolyan, Gabrovo, Lovech, Veliko Tarnovo, Kardzhali), June 11 will be a day with contrasting weather – sunny and hot in the first half, and with developing thunderstorms in the afternoon.

Maximum temperatures in Western and parts of Central Bulgaria will be between 28 and 33°C, with thermometers in the warmest regions once again approaching 30–33°C. The minimums will be around 13–18°C.

Cumulonimbus clouds will develop in the afternoon, and short-lived but intense rainfall, thunderstorms, and a risk of hail are expected in many places in Western and Central Bulgaria. A yellow code for intense rainfall and thunderstorms is in effect for a significant part of these regions.

Eastern Bulgaria

In Eastern Bulgaria, outside the coastline (Shumen, Sliven, Yambol, Targovishte, Razgrad, the interior of Dobrich and Burgas region), the weather will remain relatively calmer compared to the western half of the country.

Maximum temperatures will be in the range of 27–32°C, and minimums – around 15–19°C.

Before noon it will be sunny almost everywhere, and in the afternoon more significant cloudiness will develop mainly over Northeastern Bulgaria, where short-lived showers and thunderstorms are possible in isolated places. In the rest of the area, precipitation will be rarer and weaker.

The wind in the eastern interior regions will be light to moderate, with a prevailing northeasterly or easterly component.

Weather in the mountains

On June 11, the mountains will greet the day with sunny weather, but already around and after noon, conditions will worsen rapidly with the formation of cumulonimbus clouds.

Maximum temperatures at about 1500 m will be around 14–18°C, and in high parts above 2500 m – around 7–10°C.

Intense thunderstorms and heavy rainfall are expected in the afternoon in many mountain areas, especially in the Rila-Rhodope region, the Balkan Mountains, and the Western Rhodopes; hail is also possible. The wind in the high parts will strengthen, with gusts that can reach and exceed 25 km/h during the storms.

Tourists should plan their treks in the morning hours and avoid ridge routes in the afternoon, when the risk of thunderstorms and a sharp deterioration in visibility is significant.

Black Sea Coast

Along the Black Sea coast, including the Northern and Southern Black Sea and the area around Burgas, June 11 will be one of the more stable days suitable for the beach compared to the interior of the country.

Before noon it will be sunny, and in the afternoon broken clouds will appear, but it is expected to remain almost without precipitation along the coastline.

Maximum air temperatures along the Black Sea will be between 22 and 26°C, and in the Burgas area, the thermometers will reach about 25–26°C. Minimum temperatures in the morning will be around 17°C.

The sea water temperature along the coast will be around 22–23°C, including the beaches around Burgas. The sea will be slight – about 2 degrees.

A moderate southeasterly wind will blow with speeds of 4–8 m/s, more noticeable in open areas and capes.

Preliminary assessment for flags along the Black Sea on June 11:

  • morning and noon – green flag: favorable conditions for swimming and water sports, with good sea state and visibility;
  • late afternoon – on parts of the windier beaches, a yellow flag is possible due to temporary strengthening of the wind and increased wave action, although serious storms along the coast are not expected.

Beachgoers are urged to follow the signals of the lifeguards and the warnings of local authorities, as the situation in the interior of the country will be unstable and dynamic.
