Summer heat on July 12: heat, storms in the west and excellent sea conditions near Burgas

Weather in Burgas and the region on July 12

On July 12, a typical July summer day awaits us in Burgas – plenty of sun, high temperatures, and more noticeable heat in the afternoon. The weather will be mostly clear, with minimal cloud cover and no significant conditions for precipitation.

The minimum temperature in the city of Burgas in the morning will be around 19–20°C, and in the afternoon the maximum values will reach about 31–32°C in the city and up to 32–33°C in the interior of the region (Aytos, Karnobat, Sredets).

The probability of precipitation in the Burgas area and the coastal zone is low – about 0–10%, with dry and stable weather expected for most of the day.

The sea water temperature near Burgas will be around 24–25°C, providing very comfortable conditions for swimming and water sports.

A light to moderate wind will blow from the east-northeast at speeds of about 3–6 m/s, with a slight increase in the afternoon due to the breeze effect. The sea state will be slight, around 1–2 degrees.

Sofia and Sofia Region

In the Sofia area, July 12 will begin sunny and hot, but the atmosphere will become more unstable in the afternoon hours. Morning and early afternoon will be dominated by sunny weather with scattered high cloudiness.

Maximum temperatures in the capital will be around 26–27°C, and minimums – around 17°C. The air will be warm, with lower humidity in the first half of the day.

From the afternoon until midnight over Western Bulgaria, including Sofia and the surrounding mountain areas, cumulus-rain clouds will develop. There will be showers and thunderstorms in places, with more intense phenomena expected in the mountains and their adjacent regions.

The wind will be light to moderate, with a prevailing north-westerly component, temporarily intensifying during thunderstorms.

Western and Eastern Bulgaria

Western Bulgaria

In Western Bulgaria, the day will be hot but unstable. The morning will be mostly sunny, and in the afternoon cumulus-rain clouds will develop, with short-term, locally intense showers and thunderstorms, especially in the mountains and surrounding basins.

Maximum temperatures will be between 30 and 35°C, and minimums – around 16–19°C. It will be hottest in the southwestern regions and along the Struma valley.

The probability of precipitation in Western Bulgaria in the afternoon is high – between 50 and 70%, with a risk of local thunderstorms. The wind will be light to moderate from the west-northwest, with stronger gusts during storms.

Eastern Bulgaria

In Eastern Bulgaria, outside the coast (Shumen, Sliven, Yambol, Targovishte, Razgrad, the interior of Dobrich, and Burgas region), the weather will remain more stable and mostly sunny.

Maximum temperatures will be between 29 and 33°C, and minimums – around 17–20°C. Cloudiness will be scattered, with a slight increase in the afternoon, but precipitation will occur only in separate places and rather in isolation.

The wind will be light to moderate from the northeast, especially in open fields and hilly areas, providing slight coolness in the afternoon hours.

Weather in the mountains

On July 12 in the mountain regions, the morning will be mostly sunny, but around and after noon, cumulus-rain clouds will develop, especially over the massifs in Western and Southwestern Bulgaria.

Maximum temperatures at about 1200 m will reach around 22°C, and at 2000 m – around 14°C. The weather will be pleasant for hiking in the first half of the day, but more uncertain in the afternoon.

In the afternoon hours, in some places in the mountains, there will be light to moderate short-term rain with thunderstorms. The wind in the higher parts will be moderate, and on the highest ridges – strong, from the west-northwest.

Hikers should plan longer routes for the morning hours and avoid ridge crossings and exposed peaks in the afternoon, when the risk of thunderstorms increases.

Black Sea Coast

Along the Black Sea, including the Northern and Southern parts, July 12 will be a very suitable day for the beach and relaxation. For most of the day, it will be sunny, with occasional cumulus clouds, but without significant rainfall along the coastline.

Maximum air temperatures along the coast will be between 25 and 28°C, and around Burgas and south towards Sozopol, Primorsko, and Tsarevo, they will be closer to 27–28°C. Morning minimum temperatures will be around 19–21°C.

The sea water temperature along the Black Sea coast will be around 24–26°C, with values expected at the upper end of this range around Burgas. The sea state will be slight – about 1–2 degrees.

A light to moderate north-northeasterly wind will blow, which will feel more noticeable on open beaches in the afternoon, but without posing a serious risk for swimming.
