Paris fashion week for summer 2027 ended with Louis Vuitton, where Nicolas Ghesquière showed dresses and jackets in fabrics as light as cigarette paper. Almost all the big houses took the same direction: airy, sheer fabrics in pastel and neutral shades. Some of that lightness fits easily into an everyday wardrobe. The rest belongs on the catwalk.
Five ideas are closest to the street.
The first is the dress that falls along the body. Ghesquière described it this way: "Nothing is rigid, everything flows, like a second skin." His collection has dresses in a 1960s shape, and coats in silk, jersey and cashmere that weigh as little as a scarf. Elie Saab's show has the same look, with jumpsuits with thin straps and appliquéd flowers in pale pink, dusty blue, garden green and sand.
The second is sheer clothing worn over ordinary pieces. Dries Van Noten showed a shiny cocktail dress over a rugby shirt and a silk dress over a printed T-shirt. At Dior, Jonathan Anderson bets on sheer jackets, slip dresses and shirts buttoned askew. Sheer is not an evening effect here but one more layer over familiar clothes.
Stretch tweed and pastels
The third idea is the jacket in a new fabric. At Chanel, Matthieu Blazy made a new stretch tweed from embroidered organza and silk. The jackets are cropped, sleeveless or edged with trim. It is the familiar suit, only lighter for the warm months.
The fourth is colour. According to Monocle, the palette is pastel and neutral shades. Dries Van Noten has jade green, lilac, baby blue, lemon and pale pink, while Carven chose butter yellow, icy blue and cotton-candy pink. Hermès follows the daylight from morning mist to sunset, with sky blue, cream, burnt browns and sunflower yellow.
The fifth is metal, but in small doses. Saint Laurent ended with gilded trench coats and cocktail dresses, and the collection had no bags at all. Maison Margiela showed dresses with a metallic finish and crumpled silver. In a real wardrobe, metal is easiest to wear as a muslin scarf, a blouse with metallic thread or shoes, not as a whole outfit. Dior has both silver and green, alongside baby blue.
What stays on the catwalk
Some of the lightest fabrics were made for the stage. Satoshi Kondo at Issey Miyake showed coats in ultra-thin ripstop nylon that billowed behind the models like parachutes. Hermès had dresses that look like fishing nets, with the skin showing through. Dior's atelier versions, with dresses made of hand-cut petals, are also more for a shop window than for every day. That conclusion is the editors' own: clothes like these give an idea of a silhouette, but few people will wear them to work.
Other pieces are easier to wear. Hermès offered open-knit pieces, wide trousers and a perforated suede jacket, as well as small bags with a mesh detail. Anderson at Dior showed more slip dresses with thin straps, soft peplums and pencil skirts. The same designer presented a "loosening of the rules": deliberately casual clothing that is beautiful but weightless.
Elie Saab also has something closer to the shops. The house launches a collaboration with H&M in October 2026.
