On June 20, 2025, the mayor of Yambol notified the Minister of Environment and Water, Manol Genov, about low water levels on the Tundzha River in the area. At the minister's order, experts from the East Aegean River Basin Directorate - Plovdiv and representatives of "Irrigation Systems" EAD - Middle Tundzha Branch, conducted a joint inspection of a section of the Tundzha River and its tributaries.
The inspection covered the territory from the Mechkarevo dam on the Tundzha River in the lands of the village of Mechkarevo, Sliven Municipality, to the bridge near the village of Zavoy, Tundzha Municipality, Yambol Province. The findings showed that after the Mechkarevo dam, the runoff in the Tundzha River is within normal limits, without any detected unauthorized impoundment or water diversion. Also, during the inspection of the Sotirska, Sazhevitsa and the ravine near the village of Zhelyо voyvoда tributaries, normal flow was observed without any dried-up sections.
