The European Central Bank has launched a pilot project for the digital euro with 36 service providers. Mobile wallets and payments are being tested across 19 eurozone countries.

The Dawn of a New Era: The Digital Euro Enters the Testing Phase

The European Central Bank (ECB) has taken a key step toward the future of payments by selecting 36 leading payment service providers for a large-scale pilot project of the digital euro. 19 central banks from the eurozone will also participate in the initiative.

"The strong market interest demonstrates the private sector's readiness to strengthen European payment infrastructure," said Piero Cipollone of the ECB.

What will be tested?

Technical functionality: Use of a beta version of the digital wallet.
Operational processes: Payments between individuals and to merchants.
User experience: Online and offline transactions, including mobile solutions.
