The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA Bulgaria) has expressed its firm solidarity with Germany following the hybrid attack that took place in the city of Leipzig. In an official statement published on the X platform in September, the Bulgarian ministry emphasized that such malicious actions against our international partners and allies are completely unacceptable.

In its position, the MFA states that Bulgaria will continue to support decisive and well-coordinated efforts aimed at countering hybrid threats. The goal of these actions is to ensure the collective security of our countries. Here are the key highlights from the official statement:

  • Solidarity with Germany following the incident in Leipzig.
  • The unacceptable nature of hybrid attacks against allies.
  • Commitment to joint security efforts.

Meanwhile, the German government has officially accused Russia of orchestrating the failed attack, in which an explosives-laden drone was directed at the Leipzig/Halle airport. In response to this hostile act, German authorities have announced a series of retaliatory measures aimed at protecting their national interests.

The steps taken by Berlin include:

  • Closing the Russian Consulate General in Bonn.
  • Terminating the contract with the "Russian House" cultural institute in Berlin.
  • Imposing additional sanctions.
